Derrick Trammell, LPCC-S

Owner

Derrick is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor in Kentucky and was trained at the University of Kentucky. He has been the Clinical Director of the Co-Occurring Residential and Outpatient Programs at Transitions, Inc. and Clinical/Operations Director of the Community-Based Therapy Program at Holly Hill Children’s Services. Derrick has over 10 years experience where he combines his clinical counseling expertise with his business knowledge to offer clients a unique perspective of problem solving. He is uniquely qualified to treat co-occurring mental health disorders and addiction. In addition, he has extensive experience working in the area of children and adolescent’s mental health.

FUN FACT: Derrick enjoys spending time with his three dogs and getting a workout in with CrossFit and Kayaking.

Lorna Shepherd, LCSW-S

Clinic Supervisor

Lorna is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Kentucky & Indiana and received her Masters Degree in Social Work at the University of Kentucky in 2001. She has been the Clinical Supervisor of the Co-Occurring Residential Programs at Transitions, Inc. and Director of the Targeted Case Manager/Supervised Visitation Programs at Holly Hill Children’s Services. Lorna has over 15 years experience providing clinical services in residential, outpatient & private practice settings in the Northern Kentucky area to children, adolescents, families & adults. She specializes in trauma, substance use disorders and is trained in EMDR therapy.

FUN FACT: Lorna enjoys doing yoga, spending time with her dog, and supporting the local sports teams (FCC, Bengals, Reds, UK Wildcats).

Brandon Breedon

Business Coordinator

Brandon is the Business Coordinator at FamilyCare Counseling.  Brandon is responsible for implementing and managing all back office operations.  Brandon has been engaged with his community since he was a young adult.  From working with kids at the YMCA as a teen to volunteering at Crayons to Computers and the Freestore Foodbank as an adult, he understands the importance of community involvement and the impact it makes.  Brandon has worked in education with children, in Administration/Customer Service with business large and small.  With his diverse experience and background,  he is a great addition to the FamilyCare team!

FUN FACT: Brandon and his partner Ryan have 3 dogs: Noodle, Keven and Jax.  They recently bought a new home in Covington and enjoy spending time at home.  Brandon is an auto enthusiast and enjoys traveling.

Mark Huelskamp

Clinic Coordinator

Mark is the Site Coordinator where he is responsible for implementing and managing all front office operations to ensure smooth and efficient daily operations in support of FCCS clinical professionals, assisting with back-office operations, and building an environment fostering delivery of the consumer value equation. Mark has over 9 years experience in hospital administration and as a Certified Surgical Technologist where he has worked in the Operating Room with open heart surgeries. Mark was the Lead Surgical Tech on the Cardiac Team at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital for 3 years prior. His experiences and leadership inside and outside the operating room with skills such as attentiveness, team-oriented mindset, and adaptability makes him a perfect fit at FamilyCare. Although he has left the Operating Room, his first priority is quality patient care and putting the patient first. 

FUN FACT: Mark and his husband Brandyn have 3 dogs: Java, Zarrah and Luca. They just built a house and enjoy doing home projects to transform their house into a home. Mark also enjoys baking in his free time!

Kelly Perry, CPSS

Recovery Assistant/Recovery Coach

Kelly is a Certified Peer Support Specialist. Kelly assists with our IOP and Aftercare Programs. Kelly provides invaluable support for clients in our SUD programs who are trying to overcome their compulsive, obsessive, destructive behaviors. A Recovery Coach is a kind of “Life Coach” that helps clients make smart choices and healthy decisions, with the number-one priority not acting out in their addiction. Kelly also assists with front desk operations to ensure our visitors are receiving quality care.

Ashley Swope, LPCA

Therapist (under Supervision)

Ashley is a Licensed Professional Clinical Associate with a BA in Psychology from the University of Louisville and MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Xavier University. She has a passion for working with adults and adolescents with substance use disorders and mental health disorders. Ashley is currently under supervision by a state-licensed clinician working towards independent licensure.

FUN FACT: Ashley enjoys reading and collects vinyl records.

Amber Hodge, CSW

Therapist (under Supervision)

Amber is a graduate of the University of Louisville with a Master of Science in Social Work degree. She is a Kentucky Board Certified Social Worker and working toward her independent licensure under the supervision of a state-licensed supervisor. Amber carries a passion for mental health, treating addiction, and supporting individuals in reaching their highest potential. She enjoys working with children, adolescents and adults through an individualized approach.

FUN FACT: Amber enjoys road trips, hiking, kayaking and is an avid animal-lover. 

Amy Schoettmer, CADC

Therapist (under supervision)

 Amy is a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor in Kentucky and a Licensed Clinical Addictions Counselor in Indiana. She worked at Transitions as a Clinician and owned her own outpatient clinic in Greenwood and Franklin, Indiana before coming to FamilyCare as a clinician. Amy has over 30 years experience in the field of Substance Use Disorder and loves to work with men and women helping them achieve and maintain recovery.

FUN FACT: Amy waterski’s, paddleboards, roller blades, plays pickelball and loves supporting the OSU Buckeyes!

Scott Spence, LCADC

Therapist (under supervision)

 Scott is a Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor in Kentucky.  He has a Masters of Art in Theology and a Post Graduate Certificate in Spirituality and Pastoral Care from Xavier University.  He also participated in the Chaplain residency program at the University of Kentucky Medical Center, working primarily in the Behavioral Health and Emergency Room Departments.  He is currently working on a second master’s in clinical Mental Health from Xavier and believes strongly in a person first approach to counseling and recovery.

FUN FACT: He enjoys working on antique and foreign cars.   He also enjoys collecting Star Trek toys and Memorabilia.  

Rachel Hall, BA

Care Navigator

Rachel is a care coordinator at FamilyCare and is studying at the University of the Cumberlands to be a licensed professional counselor. Rachel has experience working with women and families specifically serving survivors of domestic violence and helping families get connected to resources. Rachel has experience working with clients who have experienced trauma and uses a trauma informed approach with her clients. 

FUN FACT: Rachel enjoys being outside with her kids and enjoys exploring National Parks. 

Cassie Van Es, BA

Care Navigator

Cassie received her undergraduate degree in social work from the University of Northern Iowa and is currently researching graduate programs. Cassie has been a case manager at a non-profit serving refugees, connecting them to resources and needed support and has experience working with adults with intellectual disabilities, youth, and caring for the elderly. 

Fun Fact: Cassie enjoys traveling, loves to watch sunrises and sunsets, and supports local and non-local sports teams. 

David Hendy, BA

Care Navigator

David is a targeted case manager with 5 years of experience in healthcare with 2 years in mental/behavioral health. He received his undergraduate degree in psychology from the University of Cincinnati and is currently researching graduate programs. David worked at a non-profit behavioral health agency before coming to FamilyCare and is using his experience to assist clients with meeting their needs and accessing necessary resources. 

Fun Fact: David enjoys camping at national parks and has even camped on the beach of an island off the east coast before.
